Whilst each hospital will recommend an NHS approved wig supplier there is nothing to stop you from visiting a private independent store. There are some excellent wig suppliers are truly dedicated to offering you a great service.
But you should be advised that a private wig shop will not normally be able to accept your NHS prescription – meaning that you will need to pay in full. Wigs are often not as expensive as you may think. For example the cost of some short haired wigs start from around £70.00 (NHS prescription is around £60.00), so don’t be put off. Also if you are a cancer sufferer you shouldn’t have to pay the VAT but this does depend on supplier (

Just check that your supplier is used to offering services to people experiencing hair loss because of cancer treatments (as some wig shops are for fashion wearing) as you will need advice on wearing your wig for hair loss.
