Most cancer units can put you in touch with a local counsellor. But dealing with hair loss is quite a specialist area. So finding counsellors who specialise in hair loss can be difficult. One such person is Anne Thornton Patterson who offers a very supportive service.
Anne Thornton Patterson uses a combination of techniques to try and help people cope with hair loss issues. Anne trained with the Institute of Clinical Hypnosis in hypnotherapy which she uses extensively to help people resolve their issues and problems. She has worked helping many people overcome and deal with hair loss and offers an excellent phone or face to face service within the UK.
She is quite unique in offering a support service because she truly understands all of the issues surrounding hair loss and is also very knowledgeable about helping people through cancer.

Hairdresser
When faced with dealing with changes to your hair care routine, finding a good hairdresser can really give your confidence a boost. Your hairdresser may be able to offer you ideas for new short styles and help you plan your hair care needs. Not all hairdressers have the experience to offer hair loss services, but many do. Support groups
Talking to other people who have been through the same experience as you can be a real support. Sharing feelings, emotions and having a chat with someone who can actually understand what you are going through can be a really good way to vent your feelings and get some ideas of how others have coped. Practical advice and support with covering up (wigs, scarves etc)
When having to sort out all of the practicalities that go with cancer treatment, appointments, work schedule, family commitments and so on, it is no wonder that finding the energy and time to cope with some of the practical issues surrounding hair loss can feel overwhelming. However do take some time to look at your options for covering up as you may find there are items that you never knew existed and it may be just the thing that makes all the difference to you.
Specialist makeover sessions/workshops
Some cancer organisations and charities offer makeover sessions and workshops to help give you ideas and support on looking good through hair loss. This can be a great opportunity to get some expert advice and try out new looks under expert guidance. Below are two examples:

Head Strong - Breast Cancer Care
HeadStrong is a free service run by the charity Breast Cancer Care. There specially trained volunteers offer practical information and support around hair loss due to cancer treatment, on an individual appointment basis. There helpful sessions offer an excellent opportunity for you to try on head scarves and have a one to one session to discuss your needs.

Talk to your local wig supplier
I often hear people say that they are having problems with their wig. It is so important to call your local supplier who most of the time will be able to help you. Sometimes wigs just need a snip here and there to make all the difference. Click here to find out how to find a good wig supplier
Financial worries
Finances can be really stretched during this time and you may not feel able to cope with the extra costs related to your hair loss such as wigs, cover ups or the costs of seeing a counsellor. Money problems can make emotional problems spiral, so take control of the situation as help is often available to you at this time. There are many organisations and businesses who offer discounts and free support to people who need a helping hand during this time.
