Will I lose my eyebrows and lashes and will they grow back? The only reason that your brows and lashes may be effected during radiology treatment is if you are having radiology treatment onto the head and in particular the specific area of the eyebrow and lashes.
Radiotherapy treatment is very specific to particular areas of your body. Any hair loss, which can be a side effect of treatment, would only occur in areas that are being treated. Therefore, the only reason that your brows and lashes would be effected during radiology treatment is if you are having radiology treatment onto the head and the radiology beams pass through the brow or eye area. If this is the case then your radiologist will normally have spoken to you in advance about this.
I cannot stress the importance of talking to your radiologist about this.
Ask them to draw you a diagram or show you on your face exactly where you will be effected. I say this because I have talked to so many people who are worrying unnecessarily as they are having radiology treatment but may not be effected by hair loss. For example radiology to the breast area simply will not effect your head– So please check.
If effected the hair loss may result in thinner or permanent areas of thinning or loss of hair. Should you be effected it is best that you discuss any options for using makeup or false replacements with your radiologist first. This is because the skin can be very sensitive following radiology treatment and so it is best to check.
If you are having radiology treatment to any other area of the body you will not be affected by hair loss to eyebrows and lashes.
We will guide you through lots of ways to look great if you are effected by eyebrow and lashes falling. It is vital that you seek approval from your radiologist before using any makeup.
