The highlight of a 2010 was working with the Teenage Cancer Trust to offer teenagers a real confidence boost. Wigs, fake lashes, head scarves and over 1000 goodies given away to help these young people gain confidence. Take a look at our Gigs and Wigs projects to see how they have developed.

The Comet Community awards - 23rd October 2009. What a wonderful evening. I was thrilled to be asked to present the Valiant Volunteer award to Joan Kirby. Congratulations Joan you are truly a star of the community.

Winner...Our JJ wins nurse of the year - 23rd October 2009. Back in August I (Jasmin) nominated JJ for this nursing award. Without her and the team in the Forster Suite our Cancer Hair Care clinic simply couldn’t exist in the Lister Hospital. She is a great example of someone who always goes that extra mile - her catch phrase is “JJ will sort it”. I admire her greatly. She is a true example of everything that makes a nurse so special. Well-done JJ you deserve it and thanks for supporting our Cancer Hair Care clinic.

Cancer Hair Care website is live…Wow… 5th October 2009 four years of planning, writing and making sure that our advice is caring, accrete and helpful for people facing hair loss. Without the wonderful people who have supported this project it simply couldn’t have happened – so thank you to all who have helped. (Kindly note the website is now run by our formal charity Caring Hair).

TV Chanel 4- First Cut Films July 10th 2010. Our founder Jasmin is featured as the hair loss specialist who identifies a solution for hair loss sufferer Laura. In this compelling documentary film Jasmin shows Laura how to look great by attaching a fake fringe to her hair to disguise hair loo.

Cancer Hair Care Clinic opens –2nd April 2009. As part of NHS volunteer services the countries first ‘Cancer Hair Care ‘clinic opens in an NHS hospital. It is a true pleasure to work with the dedicated team of nurses, doctors and staff at The Forster Suite at The Lister Hospital. Here I can offer a broad range of services and advice to patients. From cutting hair short prior to hair fall to sessions on wearing your wig well. My clinic is free and open to all.

Jasmin is a great role model and I really admire her for turning her ideas into a reality”.

Enterprising Women Finalist Green Award - November 2008. “Whilst offering our Cancer Hair Care voluntary services we believe that it is our responsibility to go about our tasks with a green and ethical approach whenever we can. We don’t just talk about it – we do it. Whether it’s designing the world's first ever organic ‘headscarves to disguise hair loss’, using recycled tissue paper to hand wrap your items, or our ‘Twice as Nice’ headscarf recycling service, where we recycle headscarves and donate them to hospices. We truly do our best to consider the environment and ethics of what we do. I was so proud to receive this recognition”. Jasmin Julia Gupta

Jasmin Julia Gupta - Winner Campbell Younge Award – October 2007. Presented annually to someone who has made a significant contribution to improving relations between the multicultural communities in Stevenage or who can be seen as a positive role model.
“This award was such an honour as it recognised my voluntary work with cancer patients as well as my efforts in an ethical and multicultural approach to society such as creating our very first organic/fairtrade cotton hair loss head scarfs – all things very close to my heart – it was such a surprise and a real honour” Jasmin Julia Gupta

They are the future – Education and offering young people work experience

“Young people are the future of charities. Not only do they help to show us how we can support teenagers with our Gigs and Wigs project but they are full of new ideas and offer us insight and young wisdom. A huge thank you to all of the young people who we have worked with – we hope that you enjoyed your working experience” Jasmin Julia Gupta

Jasmin Julia Gupta and volunteers have offered over 200 young people work experience sessions. From Rosie Young of Leeds University who spent a year with Jasmin from 2010 to 2011 to the 8 University of Hertfordshire students who planned a Big Wig project over 4 months to the 39 teenagers from The Barclay School who attended a week long work experience and many other students who have come are way. Just like the Chauncey school below all of the young people have helped us to form our services and make Caring Hair the excellent charity it is today.

Teenage cancer workshop 12th July 2009. The Chauncy School in Ware designed beautiful headwear for young people faced with hair loss. They also learnt all about cancer prevention from our guest speakers from the Teenage Cancer trust.
