Keeping your wig in place
It’s only natural to fear that your wig may move around or slip, here are some tips for making sure your wig is secure and snugly in place.
Slipping
You should feel able to move around without your wig slipping
• Does your wig have fastening belts usually inside by the nape of he neck? - check that you know how to tighten them. They are a bit like a bra strap. If they are lose take your wig off and alter a few millimetres then try on again and adjust by slipping your hand underneath your wig and tugging the straps – repeat if necessary
• Try a wig/scull cap – looks like the toe of tights – you will need to experiment with this as some people find this helps and others feel it make it worse
• Hypoallergenic double sided tape for wigs stuck onto area of bare scalp and connected to the inside of your wig may help
• Wear a head band or scarf as additional support
• Wear a rain hat or scarf over your wig in rain or wind
• Speak to your wig supplier – these people are caring experts and are so under used, most of the time they can offer you a solution– give them a call or pop in for suggestions
If you wear glasses
• Ask your wig supplier the best way for your wig. For example some may suggest you poke them through the weft of the wig, but most will suggest that you place them over the top or underneath the wig – this can be tricky so get some one-on-one advice
• Now, if you are advised not to poke your glasses through the weft of the wig it is normally because of the fear of damaging the wig. BUT many people do this as they find it is the only option – remember you can always buy another or repair your wig
• Try putting your glasses over the top of your wig and placing a thin fabric head band or scarf over them in the form of a head band – wig suppliers may advise against this because it can cause the wig to frizz a bit – but many people find it really helpful.
Baggy wig
• How long have you had your wig for? If over 6 months then it may be time for a new one
• It may be that your wig is too tight and gathering in one area or not tight enough. Does your wig have fastening belts usually inside by the nape of he neck? - check that you know how to tighten/loosen them. They are a bit like a bra strap so try adjusting them to see if the bagginess changes
• Try wearing a fabric hair band or scarf over your wig to re shape
• If your wig is new take it back to your supplier and ask their advice
