Jaya chats with Jasmin – Founder of Cancer Hair Care about her experience
Jasmin
Jaya here you are with your beautiful curly dark curly hair but you and I have a secret to share
Jaya
Yes its coloured with a natural hair dye! Came back a mix of colours, a little of my own dark but mostly greys and silver
Jasmin
Mmm and a few whites I believe! So Jaya I want to ask you about your experience from the start. What did you live in when you were hair free? were you a wig person, bit of both, hats and scarves?
Jaya
Both really, my wig was especially good at family get together and a wedding I went to. But I also like head scarves, they were good for when I returned to work.
Jasmin
I remember that we cut your wig a few times to get it just right. I remember when you first got your wig we cut it a bit to suit your face shape and talked about the importance of you feeling confident within your Asian community. The wig was a big step for you as you had such beautiful long glossy dark Asian hair – a real statement.
Jaya
I just didn't want to part with my long hair and at first I just didn’t want to accept it when you told me that I was likely to lose most of my hair. I just didn't want any of my family or friends to see me bald or with less hair.
Jasmin
Yes I remember and you know what Jaya so many women say the same thing. In the end when it was falling you made the decision to cut it down short as the long stands were upsetting you.
Jaya
Yes it made me feel better and you gave me a nice gentle head massage to help my sore head. Now looking back I always had faith in my-self and took a positive attitude. I kept saying to my self - I have to get better. I have so much to offer. I cannot be written off yet.
Jasmin
I know that your social life within your community really helped you, tell us about that
Jaya
I have always been a people's person. I set up a Gujarati School in Stevenage College to give a boost to children to learn their mother tongue language and for the Asian community children including
my children. I also got involved a lot culturally with different groups and local commitments so I wasn't going to give up that quickly. My personal thoughts were, be positive, be active and look forward and don't dwell on it in the end you will come out a winner.
Jasmin
Jaya I love this picture below of you and your daughter Anita have you enjoyed todays makeover?
Jaya
Yes very much so, Thanks to all the team and support from my husband and children and family I am able to be here today and hope that these pictures will help other ladies.
