Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is a form of behavioural therapy that can be very effective in helping you to deal with the emotions of hair loss. During treatment the hypnotherapist will use various techniques to help take you into a very deep relaxation – but you will normally be aware of your surroundings and can speak in a relaxed and calm way. Once you have relaxed, they will then talk you through your concerns and make suggestions to try and help you have confidence to deal with your hair loss and emotions associated with it.
Sessions are normally around 1 hour and costs start from around £40.00 upwards. You will normally sit or lay in a comfortable position during treatment. Some hospital units have a hypnothrapist who visits the ward and you can also find hypnotherapists privately.
Hair loss can feel like such an isolating experience and sometimes talking this through with a hypnotherapist can help you reframe the experience in order to come to terms with it. It can be very helpful to tell someone what’s going on in your mind and in turn to learn new ways to cope with changes in your appearance.
“Talking to someone independent from my family was such a help. It’s all very well for people to tell you that your hair will grow back and that you look great in your wig, but for me it was an opportunity to vent my feelings and let go of some anger. I asked my hypnotherapist to help me feel confident in wearing my wig back to work and I must say I felt a lot less anxious about the whole situation” Lydia, 43 Welwyn Garden City
