Does the NHS fund hair pieces, extensions, weaves and hair replacement options?

NHS funding and help towards costs:

Hair pieces
If you need a hairpiece to cover hair thinning or patchy hair loss as a result of cancer treatment then you should be able to get a hairpiece (as you would a wig) by referral letter from your specialist or GP to an NHS approved wig supplier.

You will need to speak to your specialist or GP for a referral letter.

Extensions
The NHS does not normally offer help towards the cost of extensions but it is always worth asking your local NHS wig supplier for advice on this as some hair specialists have obtained NHS funding support.

Some private hair loss clinics such as Lucinda Ellery have managed to obtain some help for those who need it from the NHS Primary Health Care Trusts

Weaves
The NHS does not offer help towards the cost of weaves

Hair replacement options
The NHS does not normally offer help towards the cost of hair replacements but it is always worth asking your local NHS wig supplier for advice on this as some hair specialists have obtained NHS funding support.
