Giving your personal and medical details to a practitioner
It is quite normal to be asked to fill in a medical questionnaire and give personal details to a practitioner. They may also ask you to read through possible side effects of treatments and to sign a consent form. It is important to remember that long lists of possible side effects (normally mild effects such as tiredness after a massage) are associated with nearly any treatment and if you have any concerns then talk to your doctor.
In the modern world we live in unfortunately a list of side effects is often produced for even the most simple of practices such as a scalp massage – so don’t be put off. A practitioner may ask permission to write to your oncologist or GP, informing them about your treatment. Again this is quite normal and is often a liability insurance requirement.
If you are having a massage you may be offered oils and creams, but if you have had any scalp or skin problems it is best to stick with natural and organic lotions and oils. Most practitioners can accommodate a number of issues, so just chat any concerns through with them so that you can enjoy your treatment.
Kindly note – It is always recommended that you check with your doctor before having any form of alternative of complementary therapy.
